This depends on the number of dental implants to be placed and the difficulty of the implantation. The implantation time can vary between 40 minutes and 2-3 hours.
- Meals: Light meals are recommended before implantation. Do not come with an empty stomach. Exceptions are implantation under general anaesthesia
- Brushing your teeth: Brush your teeth thoroughly and clean your interdental spaces before implantation. Clean teeth lead to faster healing and fewer complications. You can also use an antiseptic mouth rinse or mouthwash.
- Facial cleansing: It is advisable to appear without make-up so that the surgical environment is as sterile as possible. Do not wear foundation, powder or bronzer.
- Shaving: From a hygienic point of view, it is advisable that gentlemen arrive clean-shaven for the procedure, as the stubble can harbour many bacteria that can affect the sterility of the area
- Taking a sedative: If you think it is necessary and agree this with your doctor, you can take a piece of sedative before the operation to relieve your anxiety before the operation. It is important that you inform your doctor about this medication!
Nobel Biocare dental implants are placed under local, sedation or general anaesthesia, so there is no pain, minimal discomfort and pressure.
A panoramic X-ray and a 3D CT scan are absolutely necessary for precise planning of the dental implantation.
The cost of treatment depends on a number of factors, including which Nobel Biocare implant you choose and the complexity of the implant placement (e.g. whether bone augmentation is required). After your consultation, we will provide you with a detailed written estimate.
The recovery time for dental implants and related treatments is usually as follows:
- Tooth extraction before implantation: depending on the condition of the tooth to be extracted and the jaw bone: 4-6 months
- Implantation: 3-5 months
- Simultaneous implantation and bone grafting: 6 months
- Bone replacement (bone graft or sinus lift): 6 months
- Bone expansion: 6-8 months
Our oral surgeon may deviate from the above recovery time depending on your health condition.
The guarantee can last a lifetime in some cases (e.g. mechanical damage to an implant screw), but the effectiveness and durability of treatments depends on many factors, including your general health and oral hygiene habits. Specific guarantees will be explained during your consultation.
- Cool the surgical area with an ice pack for the first 24 hours. During the waking hours, 10 minutes of icing should be followed by 10 minutes of rest. The ice pack can be reused several times by placing it in the freezer. No ice for sinusitis!
- Do not smoke
- Do not drink alcohol
- Do not eat until the anaesthetic has worn off
- Do not touch the operated area with your fingers or tongue
- Do not suction the surgical area to avoid displacement of the blood clot as this is the basis for healing.
- Avoid dairy products, spicy foods, pickled foods, highly spiced foods, foods containing small seeds, bread crumbs, hard foods (e.g. bread crusts, seeds, bones) and beer.
- Rinse your mouth carefully only, do not use mouthwash
- Gently wash the surgical area with a surgical toothbrush from day 7 after the procedure.
- Avoid sauna visits and intensive sports
- Before the implant is permanently anchored in the bone, its stability decreases 1-6 weeks after placement, which is the critical period. Therefore, do not chew with the temporary crown on the affected side during this time. When eating, do not strain the surgical site, but eat on the other side
After the placement of dental implants, slight swelling or discolouration may occur. This is normal. In any case, we will tell you what to expect and how to deal with these symptoms.
Implant-supported dentures can be a lifelong solution. If you wear an implant-supported denture, 5DENT Dental Clinic highly recommends annual check-ups and scaling.
The care of fixed bridges and crowns on implants is similar to the care of your own teeth. In addition to brushing your teeth three times a day, it is recommended to floss once a day and use an interdental toothbrush and mouth rinse.
It is recommended to clean the fixed elements of the implant-supported denture that are attached to the implant after every meal.
The removable denture should also be cleaned with a brush and denture cleaning tablets. It may be necessary to reline the denture about every two years. The right time to do this is when you feel that your denture has lost its stability.
